NEWS SCOPE Masonry module joins Holcim app library Holcim (US) Inc. has introduced the Rainbow Masonry Designer App, an Apple iPad application allowing architects to collaborate in real time with building owners and/or construction companies to visually select brick facades that reflect a project's vision. "The app makes it far easier to design projects and deliver accurate color information to brick manufacturers for quoting," says Holcim (US) President Filiberto Ruiz. "[We are] committed to delivering value that helps our customers grow their businesses. Utilizing the right technology empowers our customers and we believe the new Rainbow Masonry Designer App will do that." The Masonry Designer App allows users to view and select brick colors, pattern/bond and mortar colors in real time. Once a combination is selected, a PDF of the choices can be sent to various brick manufacturers for samples and estimates. By dynamically selecting brick colors, patterns and one of the 60 different Rainbow mortar colors available, much of the guesswork and color speculation can be avoided. The free application is supported by the Apple iOs for the iPad via web browsers. Holcim (US) unveiled the Masonry Designer App last month at World of Concrete in Las Vegas, adding the technology product to its weatherAPP, released at the prior year's Las Vegas Convention Center gathering. Compatible with the Apple iPad and iPhone, the weatherAPP was recently upgraded. RUIZ SUCCEEDS TERVER AT HOLCIM (US) HELM Filiberto Ruiz has been promoted to president and chief executive officer of Holcim (US) and Aggregate Industries (US), succeeding Bernard Terver, who transitions to chairman of domestic operations and continues as a Holcim Ltd. executive committee member. A 26-year Holcim Ltd. veteran, Ruiz has held a range of group management, production, sales and marketing positions, serving as Holcim (US) deputy chief executive officer since August 2012. "As we look to the future, it is clear [he] is the right choice to lead both organizations," says Terver, who was appointed Holcim (US) CEO in 2008 and Aggregate Industries (US) CEO in 2010. "Through his leadership we will continue to develop the next generation of leaders from within the organization, maintain our focus on the communities we operate in, the environment, and our commitment to delivering the highest quality products and services." 14 | MARCH 2013 WWW.CONCRETEPRODUCTS.COM
