68 • February 2018 Oldcastle APG company Jewell has opened a 23,000-sq.-ft. dry mix concrete and mortar packaging plant on a 15-acre Burnet, Texas, site, complete with quarry. Known as Marble Falls, it joins sister Lone Star State operations in Hurst, Katy, Rosenberg and Waco, plus seven distribution facilities near Austin, Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston. "This strategic investment is the latest example of our sustained commitment to masonry and the concrete dry mix industry," says Oldcastle APG President Tim Ortman. "The new facility will help support our Sakrete, Amerimix and Techniseal brands, making them available on a wider scale and fuel continued growth in key markets. Masonry—a time tested and effective solution—remains a central cog in our Architectural Products Group portfolio, capable of meet- ing the needs of today's market few others can match." The Marble Falls plant "will serve a critical role in supplying high growth markets in the residential and commercial sectors throughout our region," affirms Jewell President Dan Hamblen. With few concrete dry mix plants constructed in decades, he adds, the ultra-modern operation is meaningful to the industry as well as worker safety, the environment and local community. The operation will support a proven platform that brings Amer- imix bulk offerings to the pro masonry market, the target of a current campaign urging contractors to "Ditch the Sand Pile" to save time and capture job efficiencies with quality, pre-blended mortar. Amerimix mortars can be mixed 50 percent faster than those prepared on site, and are available in a portfolio of unit masonry colors. When used with concrete masonry bearing the technology of Oldcastle APG partner, RainBloc GP, contractors and building or home owners realize a system with superior moisture barrier, inhib- iting water penetration. Along with Amerimix programs, the Marble Falls operation will advance the packaged product line of Sakrete, geared especially to the do-it-yourself market, plus Techniseal, a premium, flexible jointing material for Oldcastle Belgard and other concrete paving stones. "The new plant represents future sustained growth and confi- dence by Oldcastle, not only in our company and brands, but in the entire industry," Hamblen concludes. "We are excited for the future of masonry, both here in Texas and nationwide." FEATURE PACKAGED CONCRETE Crown Jewell One of the most advanced packaged concrete operations the industry has seen in decades, the plant is strategic to markets almost certain to remain fixtures on rankings of the fastest growing U.S. population centers.
