APG is the leader in hard- scapes and concrete masonry along with a strong national coverage with lawn & garden products, packaged cement mixes, as well as composite decking. Oldcastle APG Eastern Region President Steve Berry oversees masonry, hardscape and lawn & garden operations from Maine to Flor- ida to Texas and into the Midwest. He gained an appreciation for block making in high school, working summers at a Columbia, S.C. plant of Palmetto Quarries—an independent operator eventually sold to Lone Star Industries. After College of Charleston (S.C.) undergraduate and University of South Carolina graduate work, he proceeded to a series of assignments with Lone Star's Florida concrete block, ready mixed, cement and aggregates businesses. More recently, he was a partner in the Paver Systems business spun off from a Lone Star successor in Florida, Tarmac America. He joined Oldcastle APG following its two- phase acquisition of Paver Systems. Berry takes the helm of NCMA with an industry tenure that includes past Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute chairman (2004-06) and charter ICPI Foundation for Education and Research chairman. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT STEVE BERRY, NCMA OLDCASTLE ARCHITECTURAL At-a-Glance Last year proved most productive for BIM-M, spawning resources that dovetail NCMA stra- tegic plan goals: BIM Deliverables Guide for Contractors; BIM Revit Guide for Masonry development; Revit Masonry Wall Content Library; and Revit Training Videos. Under development for 2017 release are additional offerings such as a Masonry Unit Database. "We see the BIM-M initiative making it easier for designers to use our products, and help them to do things faster and better," Steve Berry affirms, adding that participation is an extension of "NCMA's focus on making sure our members are better advocates and able to speak to the value of concrete products in safe and sound building, and helping them promote concrete masonry attributes."
