INNOVATIONS EQUIPMENT & PRODUCTS NORTH STAR LOGS CERTIFICATION FOR BASF RHEOPEL North Star Stone and Masonry announced the Water-Repellent Admixture Certi- fication for concrete block production containing RheopelPlus high-performance admixtures produced by BASF Construction Chemicals, LLC. The company will manufacture Rheopel Plus admixture-treated concrete masonry units, having met the performance requirements for water repellency as set forth by BASF Construction Chemicals, LLC, at their Medford, Minn., plant location. Rick John- son, plant manager, will oversee manufacturing, production and distribution to ensure quality levels and availability consistent with other North Star products. "We're very excited at this growth opportunity for North Star Stone and Ma- sonry to provide the region with quality, 'certified' water-repellent concrete masonry units," says Johnson. "These concrete masonry units will improve the quality, value and overall aesthetics of North Star's concrete masonry units through its inherent benefits. In addition to water-repellency, this process will enhance color intensity and uniformity as well as reduce the potential for ef- florescence consistent with North Star's quality requirements." North Star Stone and Masonry serves southern Minnesota builders, architects, contractors and homeowners. Their solutions include clay face brick, manufac- tured and natural stone veneers, architectural block, concrete and stone pavers, flagstone, natural stone, concrete retaining wall products and more. ROLLER BEARING UNITS New SKF ConCentraSYAF roller bearing units introduce ready-to-mount and highly reliable solutions for conveyors exposed to harsh operating conditions. An innovative and unique concentric mounting system properly and securely grips the circumference of a rotating shaft to virtually eliminate potential fretting corrosion, minimize risks of im- balance-initiated vibration, and promote optimized function and trou- ble-free performance, contributing to longer service life. These "shaft ready" one-piece assembled units inte- grate pre-lubricated SKF Explorer spherical roller bear- ings offering high load-carrying capacity, long life, and high-quality performance. A robust seal and flinger create a double-barrier to protect against ingress of contaminants, enhance grease retention, and mini- mize maintenance. A rugged housing easily accepts heavy loads and reinforces durability in service. The bearing units mount and dismount to the shaft quickly from the same side using only a torque wrench reducing axial space requirements. Once the bearing unit is correctly positioned on the shaft, an- gled set screws are tightened to axially displace the precision-engineered and matched stepped inner ring and sleeve, compressing the inner sleeve to grip the shaft evenly around the entire shaft circumfer- ence for a true concentric, tight fit. Up to 1.5 de- grees of shaft misalignment can be accommodated without diminishing seal effectiveness. Shaft diameters range from 3 7/16 in. to 4 15/16 in. and the units can accept commercial grade or re- usable shafting without necessitating specially machined and costly ground or polished shafts. Housings are interchangeable to industry bolt-pattern standards. Custom products can be developed. — www.skfusa.com 50 | SEPTEMBER 2012 WWW.CONCRETEPRODUCTS.COM CARBIDE BUSHING TOOL The Bosch Carbide Bushing Tool is engineered specifi- cally for those smaller concrete chipping or gouging jobs that require a concrete roughing accessory. The tool starts with the solid power transfer delivered by a precision shank to maintain constant pressure on the tool head. The two-piece system allows the user to apply the shank or head unit with other systems. The Bosch Carbide Bushing Tool, with a head that measures 2- x 2-in. and features 25 carbide-tipped pyra- mid points, can be used with small hammers, demoli- tion hammers and combination hammers. It can prepare a rough concrete surface or remove excess con- crete where chipping, cleaning and gauging are re- quired. The bushing tool does a better job than a grinder with a cup wheel in these applications be- cause the bushing tool doesn't require dust con- trol, notes the company. — Bosch, www.boschtools.com
