NEWS SCOPE PRECAST Clark Pacific adds fourth California plant in Hanson Structural asset deal Already a major player in West Coast archi- tectural and structural precast solutions, Clark Pacific has closed on the California as- sets of Hanson Structural Precast: a flag- ship plant in Irwindale and 80-acre industrial-zoned site in Adelanto. A Los Angeles County fixture since 1968, the Irwindale property adds a second southern California plant for Clark Pacific, alongside a Fullerton site near Los Angeles, plus West Sacramento headquarters and Woodland satellite operations in northern California. Hanson Structural acquired the Adelanto site, in San Bernardino County, six years ago, eyeing a new facility to consolidate the double tee and hollow core plank production at Irwindale and another plant in Chula Vista. The acquisition boosts Clark Pacific's overall capacity and significantly enhances its structural precast offerings for the southern California and Nevada construc- tion markets, particularly for parking structures and office buildings. "[It] will allow our firm to expand our structural so- lutions offerings and continue to provide customers with the excellent quality prod- ucts and reliable professional services they have come to expect over the years from Clark Pacific and the Irwindale plant," says Clark Pacific President of Operations Bob Clark. "We are particularly pleased to wel- come current Irwindale personnel to the Clark Pacific team as we expand our serv- ices to designers, owners, and builders." "We believe this is a win-win-win solu- tion for the California construction indus- try," affirms Clark Pacific President of Business Development Don Clark. "Clark Pacific will now be able to offer cost-ef- fective structural solutions for our south- ern California clients, including our All-in-One, architecturally finished struc- tural solutions, as well as leading-edge pre- cast seismic technologies, such as the Pre- cast Hybrid Moment Frame, that offer owners enhanced asset protection." "There are great advantages to being part of a firm that is 100 percent dedicated to producing best-of-class architectural and structural precast concrete. I believe this will be a huge benefit for our customers for many years to come," adds Ed Wopschall, former Irwindale plant general manager, who will oversee the operation for Clark Pa- cific and extend a 40-year tenure at the site. Clark Pacific's expansion comes at a time when many new projects are in the production pipeline. The producer recently secured the precast concrete components contract for the fast-tracked stadium in Santa Clara, Calif., to become the new home of the NFL's San Fran- cisco 49ers, beginning with the 2014 season. The company also is providing architectural precast for the new Stanford Hospital, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital, LA Live Marriott, and San Bernardino County Courthouse. The Clark Pacific asset deal leaves Han- son Structural Precast with major opera- tions in Maple Grove, Minn., and Salt Lake City. — Don Marsh The Irwindale site is California's second old-line precast/prestressed operation to change hands over the summer. The former Pomeroy Corp. site in Perris, operating under U.S. Concrete Precast since 2008, was part of a six-plant deal between U.S. Concrete and Oldcastle Precast that closed in August.
