30 • January 2015 www.concreteproducts.com PRODUCERS Two months after entering the Texas market for volumetric mixer-de- livered concrete through a deal for Custom-Crete, U.S. Concrete Inc. subsidiary Redi-Mix LLC bolted on the fleet and sites of Scofield Con- struction Services, LLC and Mobile-Crete of South Texas, LLC. Operated collectively as Mobile-Crete, assets acquired include five volumetric ready-mixed concrete facilities and 47 mixers servicing Austin, San Antonio, and south Texas markets. They join Custom-Crete's 60 vol- umetric mixers and 11 plants Redi-Mix took over in October, netting site-mixed production in Austin, San Antonio and Dallas/Ft. Worth. "Continuing to strengthen this specialty product line of our core ready mixed concrete offering in the vibrant and diversified Austin and San Antonio markets is another step in accomplishing our stra- tegic growth objectives," notes U.S. Concrete CEO William Sandbrook. Separately, U.S. Concrete has expanded its metro New Jersey-New York business, Eastern Concrete Materials, by acquiring the ready- mixed concrete production assets and property of Diamond Concrete, Inc. on Staten Island, N.Y. The deal encompasses one plant and 24 mixer trucks, and expands Eastern Concrete's footprint to the east side of the New York City borough, where commercial and residential building are projected to increase in the coming years. "We are committed to growing our footprint through bolt-on acquisitions to better deliver high quality concrete with the highest level of customer service. Adding this site displays our commitment to increasing our ability to better serve the greater New York City con- struction market," says U.S. Concrete CEO William Sandbrook. Hanson Pipe & Precast has appointed Cory Mayo as vice president of Operations, succeeding Greg Minteer, who is retiring in the first quarter of 2015 following 33 years of service to the company. Mayo joins Hanson from trailer axle, brake, and hub component manufac- turer Rockwell American, where he was director of Manufacturing and Engineering, responsible for four plant locations with combined sales volume of more than $100 million. Prior to Rockwell, he served as president of metal parts maker Woodlawn Manufacturing and director of Operations for components engineer Stoneridge. "Cory's experience managing plant and operations across a range of component and material manufacturing makes him ideally suited for Hanson Pipe & Precast's diverse mix of product types," says Senior Vice President Scott Szwejbka. "We're confident he will help continue our operations' ongoing track record of quality production, efficient operations, and safety." Knife River Construction Materials parent MDU Resources Group has appointed Jason Vollmer to the posts of treasurer and director of Cash and Risk Management, succeeding Douglass Mahowald, who retired after nearly 33 years with the Bismarck, N.D., company. A cer- tified public accountant, Vollmer joined MDU Resources in 2005 as a financial analyst, and has held a number of accounting and finance positions with increasing responsibility, most recently Treasury, Cash and Risk Management Department manager.
