Chad Gill, who heads Concreate Inc. in Midlothian, Va., has been named Concrete Polishing Association of America presi- dent. A licensed professional engineer with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Vir- ginia Military Institute, he joined CPAA in 2012 and was elected to the board last year. Cemex anchors TCA convention demonstration The Tilt-Up Concrete Association's annual convention, presented by Meadow Burke September 29–October 1 in San Jose, Calif., will feature educational opportuni- ties for contractors, engineers, architects, suppliers, manufacturers, distributors, educators and developers from across the globe, plus an outdoor demonstration from Bradley Concrete, Cemex and Hub Construction Specialties. "This large scale demonstration will provide attendees an interactive, hands- on look at the tilt-up process and will incorporate the latest products and ser- vices offered by the industry," says TCA Managing Director Mitch Bloomquist. Dayton Superior will provide design- ers and engineers an education track featuring presentations surrounding mul- tistory tilt-up in high seismic areas plus implications of the new building codes. In addition to the education sessions, con- vention attendees will have the oppor- tunity to attend a Nox-Crete-sponsored awards gala honoring organizations, professionals and projects that have fur- thered tilt-up construction development. International attendees will be hosted at a dedicated reception in the top level of the Transamerica Pyramid, San Francisco. Featured speakers at this year's con- vention include Kim Basham, senior struc- tural engineer for KB Engineering; John Lawson, assistant professor at California Polytechnic State University; James Baty, TCA technical director; Jeffrey Brown, principal-in-charge of design at Powers Brown Architecture; Arthur McKinney, chairman of McKinney & Co.; Stephen Pelham, principal structural engineer at Barrish Pelham & Associates; Jinger Tapia, principal at Ware Malcomb, and Hernan Perez, technical services director of Ready Mixed Concrete at Cemex.
