6 • JuLY 2014 www.concreteproducts.com GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS AGENCIES Timed with the American Society of Safe- ty Engineers conference last month in Orlando, Fla., the Occupational Safety and Health Administration released an interac- tive training tool to help small businesses effectively identify hazards in the work- place. Employers and workers can virtually explore how to identify common workplace hazards in the construction and manufac- turing industries. Users will learn hazard identification skills, plus hazard abatement and control. "Hazard identifcation is a critical part of creating an injury and illness preven- tion program that will keep workers safe and healthy on the job," said Assistant OSHA programs interactive training tool identifying site, workplace hazards Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Dr. David Michaels. "This new tool not only educates employers about how to take con- trol of their workplaces and protect workers, it also demonstrates that following well-estab- lished safety practices is also good for the bot- tom line." Through the hazard identifcation tool, users can play from the perspective of either a busi- ness owner or an employee as they learn to iden- tify realistic, common hazards and address them with practical and effective solutions. The tool explains the key components of the hazard iden- tifcation process, which include information collection, observation of the workplace, inves- tigation of incidents, employee participation and prioritizing hazards. OSHA posted a game trailer of the training tool on YouTube, as shown in these captures. The agency developed the tool in conjunction with its Training Institute to assist small business owners in effectively identifying hazards in their workplace. The hazard identifcation train- ing tool can be found on OSHA's website at www. osha.gov/hazfnder. ® Acti Gel 2 0 8 - is Your Solution.
