22 • JuLY 2014 NEWS SCOPE PRODUCERS The Construction Calculators Version 4.2 app enables architects and contractors to gauge carbon dioxide emissions reduction when using supplementary cementitious mate- rials to offset portland cement in concrete mix designs. The just-released update builds on one of the industry's first mobile device- geared software products, launched in 2011, for estimating a project's ready mixed and aggregate requirements. With six northern California ready mixed plants, Watsonville-based Graniterock pro- grammed the carbon footprint calculator as part of a commitment to advance green building initiatives, and improve the envi- ronmental and health attributes of concrete. Management ties success in construction to embracing the future of sustainable building and limiting projects' carbon footprint. Notes Construction Materials Division Manager Rich Sacher, "Graniterock is com- mitted to a greener environment, and this is one small way in which we are carrying out that commitment." The company contin- ues to develop new products with recycled, environmentally friendly materials, he adds, and has four LEED Accredited Professionals on staff. With Unit Conversions, Concrete, Ag- gregate, Road Materials, and Masonry order modules—plus the new carbon footprint feature—the free app can be downloaded from the Apple AppStore.
