Nationally, 19 awards were given to 15 organizations and two individuals in the public and private sectors for their lead- ership in addressing climate change by reducing carbon pollution. Mack Trucks received the Excellence in Greenhouse Gas Management—Goal Achievement Award for: • Establishing its second goal under EPA's former Climate Leaders program in 2008 by pledging to achieve a 12 percent intensity reduction (per unit produced) from 2007 to 2012. • Achieving and exceeding its goal a year early by reducing GHG intensity by 43.2 percent, equivalent to an absolute reduction of 17.4 percent. • Achieving its most recent goal by imple- menting a comprehensive lighting mit- igation strategy for its manufacturing plants and office areas, utilizing building automation systems, and by replacing fuel oil-fired boilers with high efficien- cy natural gas-fired hot water heaters, reducing natural gas usage by 43 percent. Mack Trucks' current goal was preced- ed by its frst goal achievement—a 32 percent decrease in GHG intensity per unit produced from 2003 to 2007. The national awards program recognizes and incentivizes exemplary corporate, orga- nizational, and individual leadership in response to climate change. Award recipients represent a wide array of industries, including fnance, manufac- turing, retail, technology, higher educa- tion and local government. President Obama's Climate Action Plan calls on the federal government to work with all stakeholders to take ac- tion to cut the harmful carbon pollution that fuels climate change. The awards were announced during the late-Febru- ary 2014 Climate Leadership Conference in San Diego.
