Separately, the NCMA Education and Research Foundation named Allan Block Corp. President Bob Gravier 2013 Chairman of its Board of Trustees. He will lead an organization that has awarded nearly $2 million in grants since its 2000 inception, and has an endowment and related commitments exceeding $8 million. Gravier plans to focus on contract management for grants during his term to ensure that outcomes are maximized, NCMA notes, while eyeing Foundation activities impacting segmental retaining wall producers and users. Michael Fisher of Washington State University was awarded the $2,500 John and Marlene Heslip Architecture Scholarship for the 2013-2014 school year by the Foundation Board of Trustees at the NCMA annual meeting earlier this year. Fisher will be a junior next year majoring in architecture and construction management and is also very involved working part-time as well as participating in community charities such as Boy Scouts, Special Olympics, Habitat for Humanity, and fraternities. He feels that the relationships established in the community work along with the dual major will provide greater opportunities and faster advancement in his professional career. Dr. Bruce Suprenant, Ph.D., P.E., FACI, has joined the staff of the American Society of Concrete Contractors as technical director. His experiBruce Suprenant ence in the construction industry includes working as a structural engineer with Sverdrup & Parcel, St. Louis; as a structural manager with Lapin, Ellis and Dabler, St. Louis; as an analytical structural engineer with the Portland Cement Association, Chicago; as vice president, engineering and technical services at Baker Concrete Construction, Monroe, Ohio; and as a vice president of Structural Services, Inc., Dallas. Suprenant also served as editorial director and vice president of The Aberdeen Group. For 16 years he taught structures, construction and materials at Montana State UniWWW.CONCRETEPRODUCTS.COM versity, the University of Wyoming, the University of South Florida and the University of Colorado-Boulder. Most recently he was owner and president of Concrete Engineering Specialists, Boulder, a concrete construction consulting firm. MANUFACTURERS Lanxess is expanding its global production network for inorganic pigments with a new facility for premium iron oxide red pigments at the Ningbo Chemical Park on the Chinese East Coast. Built with highly modern environmental standards at a cost upward of $75 million, the plant will initially have an annual capacity of 25,000 metric tons and a payroll of 150. Construction will begin in the second quarter 2013. The production startup is scheduled for the first quarter of 2015. MARCH 2013 | 19
