BRIEFS Lafarge North America continues a partnership with the National Building Museum in Washington, D.C., whose offerings include the Spotlight on Design lecture series, featuring architects and designers of distinction from around the world. Since its inception in 1997, the series has hosted many of the world's premier design voices in the fields of architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, and design, including Pritzker Prize Laureates Tadao Ando, Frank Gehry, Zaha Hadid, Rem Koolhaas, I.M. Pei, and Glenn Murcutt, and other acclaimed designers. Lafarge has been the Corporate Sponsor of Spotlight on Design since 2001. The program recently featured Jamie Drake, founder of New York-based Drake Design Associates, a full-service design firm of interior designers and architects that creates residential and commercial interiors known for their urbane, stylish and dazzling aesthetic. A recipient of the 2000 D&D; Designers of Distinction Award, he sits on several prestigious boards, among them the New York Community Trust and the Historic House Trust Director's Council. "With the Lafarge Group being the world leader in building materials, our partnership with the National Building Museum is one step in our ongoing commitment to work with and learn from architects and designers in developing innovative solutions for creating more sustainable and resilient buildings," said Olivier Biebuyck, senior vice president of marketing for Lafarge."Renowned for his exuberant sense of color, his eye for unique and telling detail, his practical approach to planning, and his equal facility in traditional and modern styles, Jamie Drake is well known for creating inviting and resolutely livable environments." During the past several years, more than 30,000 individuals have attended lectures through the Spotlight on Design series with audiences ranging from professionals, policymakers and students to the general public. The series affords design professionals the opportunity to achieve continued education training through the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continuing Education System (CES). For those not local to Washington, D.C., the lecture series and interviews with individual architects dating back to 2006 can be accessed online by visiting the National Building Museum's website at www.nbm.org. ORGANIZATIONS Convening at the International Builders' Show in Las Vegas, the Masonry Veneer Manufacturers Association Board approved a transition for its 12 producer and 21 associate members to join National Concrete Masonry Association. The MVMA logo will be maintained as an affiliated NCMA brand related to promoting precast concrete veneer, with activities including an annual design awards competition for residential and commercial projects. During their annual convention in Indianapolis, held in tandem with the earlyJanuary ICON Expo, NCMA directors approved formal invitation of manufactured stone veneer and associated companies to membership.
