www.concreteproducts.com May 2019 • 41 FEATURE TRUCKS & COMPONENTS An exclusive partnership with Simard Suspensions, Canadian specialist in heavy truck modifications, supports creative solutions for front twin steer suspension installations on 4700 series models. It enables Western Star dealers to deliver 4700 SB and SF models with pre-drilled chassis and factory relocated components to expedite twin steer front suspension fitting. Integration of the 4700 conversion specifications on the assembly line provides better modification traceability and cost savings for the relocation of diesel particle filters, diesel exhaust fluid tanks, battery boxes and fuel tanks. Sales teams will also benefit with the specific modification codes of the Simard AMS40T2 front twin steer suspension in the Western Star order management system. The 72-in. and 60-in. spread configurations for the 4700 SB and SF models are in production, and other configurations are also available. "The objective of this partnership is to implement our specifications directly at the factory, allowing a cost reduction and a better care for our clients' needs, starting from the first order right to the after- sales service. As such, we merge ourselves in the truck construction workflow," says Simard Suspen- sions CEO David Tremblay. — Simard Suspensions, Baie-Saint-Paul, Quebec, 800/423-5347; www.simard- suspensions.com INSIDE ANGLES 4700 upgrades extending to the interior help drivers stay focused on the road and more productive throughout the day. Larger instrument panel gauges provide improved visibility, and a new LCD dash display delivers more information in an intuitive format. Four customizable LED indicators are available for body builders to keep the operator informed of various truck functions, data and alerts. The multi-func- tion steering wheel offers the driver easy-to-reach access to radio functions, phone controls and dash display menus. "We worked directly with customers to create an environment that drivers can customize to best meet the needs of their specific job and lifestyle," notes Parlier. "From dash-mounted USB ports for personal mobile devices, to a variety of mounting and pre-wire options for telematics systems, the 4700 is easier than ever to operate." Several new features will keep drivers and others on the road safer, she adds. Wabco OnGuard uses a bumper-mounted radar unit to track vehicles and objects in the truck's path, and then automatically applies the brake if the driver doesn't slow down in time. A Bendix lane departure camera tracks the truck's lane position and provides audible warnings when nearing or crossing dividers. — Western Star Truck Sales, Portland, Ore., www.WesternStar.com.; Cummins Inc., Columbus, Ind., www.cummins.com SIMARD TWIN STEER INTEGRATION Simard AMS40T2 front twin steer suspension Western Star 4700 SB
