32 • May 2019 ACI also elected four directors to three-year terms: Walter Flood IV, assistant engineer and project manager, Flood Laboratories, Chicago; Professor Maria Juenger, University of Texas Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering; Michael Kreger, who holds the Garry Neil Drum- mond Endowed Chair in Civil Engineering at the University of Alabama; and, Ishita Manjrekar, technical director at Sunanda Speciality Coatings Pvt. Ltd., Mumbai. The ACI Foundation has elected Dr. Alek- sandra Radlinska and Scott Anderson, P.E. as respective chairs of the Concrete Research and Scholarship Councils. The former council seeks to advance the con - crete industry through the funding of multiple research projects annually that further the knowledge and sustainability of concrete materials, construction, and structures. The Scholarship Council awards more than $100,000 in fellowships and BRIEFS ORGANIZATIONS scholarships annually in the name of indi- viduals, organizations, corporations, and ACI. Awards are promoted globally through ACI's network of faculty members. Dr. Radlinska joined the faculty of Penn State University in 2012, following four years of teaching and conducting research in the area of cement-based materials at Villanova University. She is currently researching cement solidification in the microgravity environment plus 3D printing of concrete (separate NASA- funded projects), plus pyrrhotite reactivity in concrete (funded by NSF). Anderson is president of Northern California at design-build contractor Pankow, where he has worked for the last 23 years in several capacities. An ACI Fellow, he serves ACI Committees 117 on Tolerances and 362 on Parking Structures. The Portland Cement Association has named five members as 2019 Energy and Environment Awards winners, recognizing outstanding envi- ronmental and community relations efforts from the past year. Recipients by category: Energy Efficiency, CalPortland Co., Mojave, Calif. plant; Environmental Performance, Roanoke Cement Co., Troutville, Va. plant; Innovation, Lehigh Hanson Inc., Permanente Plant, Cupertino, Calif.; Land Stewardship, Buzzi Unicem USA, Greencastle, Ind. plant; and, Outreach, Cemex Construction Materials South, Lyons, Colo. plant. "The awards highlight how America's cement manufacturers are focused on sustainably producing the highest quality product with minimal environmental footprint," says PCA CEO Michael Ireland. "The companies selected for these environmental accolades demonstrate a strong culture of innovation." The International Code Council Assessment Center received American National Standards Institute accreditation for Residential Build- ing Inspector (B1) and Commercial Building Inspector (B2) certifications. "The ANSI accreditation reflects our commitment to pursue the highest possible standard," says ICC Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims. "This mark of distinction demonstrates the Code Council has the necessary competencies and has undergone a rigorous accreditation process. Accredited certification programs are essential to maintaining public health and safety, which is at the core of the Code Council's mission."
