60 • April 2019 www.concreteproducts.com FINAL FORM FLATWORK Sound Hotel Belltown, Tapestry Collection by Hilton, is woven into the fabric of a vibrant, centrally located Seattle neighborhood. It occupies the first 10 floors of the new 42-story, Arrivé tower, one of the market's first mixed-use properties. The structure has requisite reinforced concrete construction, including exposed columns whose smooth finishes suggest self-consolidating mixes. Arriving guests are immediately welcomed into an artist's studio as stretched canvases, murals and finished concrete floors flow toward the reception desk; the Currant Bistro, also at ground level, sports polished and decorative flatwork. The concrete effects are part of a Belltown experience that interior designer Hirsch Bedner Associates, Santa Monica, Calif., pursued after staff members immersed them- selves into the neighborhood, visited local hotspots, and met with the community. "The design drew directly from the Belltown neighborhood's deep roots in the arts and local music scene, mixed in with the natural beauty of the Puget Sound region," says Sound Hotel General Manager Rockin' views Many of the 142 Sound Hotel guest rooms have expansive Seattle skyline and Puget Sound views. Les Paul-minded mural artist Jeff Jacobson has created an artistic vista for a block of lower profile rooms. David Watkins. "Warm, rich textures offer visitors an authentic North- west experience, while artistic elements reflect Seattle as a bustling hive of creativity." To add such elements on the exterior, he commissioned Seattle graffiti artist Weirdo, a.k.a. Jeff Jacobson, to paint an original mural on a brick wall facing a block of guest rooms. The larger-than-life piece features Jacobson's signature vivid, post-Internet hyper-realism style and tells the story of The Sound Hotel through art. Arrivé project principals, in addition to Hirsch Bedner Associates are Binjiang Real Estate Group, China, and Molasky Group of Compa- nies, Las Vegas, developers; Weber Thompson, Seattle, architect; and, PCL, Denver, general contractor.
