A U.K. native who joined Hanson Plc in 1999, Morrish led the Lehigh Hanson South Region ahead of taking the helm in 2015. Ward has pro- gressed in various management roles since joining Hanson Building Materials America in 1996. Topping the succession plan at Hei- delberg headquarters, Managing Board Chairman Dr. Bernd Scheifele will vacate his post at the conclusion of a third term, in January 2020, and stand as Supervisory Board chair candidate in 2022. Replac- ing him will be Managing Board Deputy Chairman Dr. Domink von Achten, whose present responsibilities for the Western Ward to succeed Europe-bound Lehigh Hanson CEO Morrish Pittsburgh-based Carmeuse Lime & Stone has acquired Yager Materials, Owensville, Ky., operator of a Meade County quarry; an Ohio River sand & gravel dredging business; three aggregate yards; four ready mixed and two asphalt plants; liquid asphalt terminal; grade and drain division; plus, marine barge construction and repair division. "This acquisition is consistent with our long-term strategy and vision," says Yves Willems, chief executive of Belgium-based Carmeuse Group. "Yager is a well-managed company with great people. It owns and operates excellent assets in an area that fits nicely with our existing network." "Yager Materials has worked with Carmeuse over the past few years and looks forward to joining the Carmeuse Group," adds Pat Yager, president. "The intent is for the Yager family members to remain involved and maintain an interest in the company." The Kentucky operations bring the suitor deeper into construction materials. Carmeuse is a key player in production of lime for agriculture, construction and industrial markets. The Yager Materials businesses join a North American organization with 30 sites, all east of the Mississippi. Chris Ward and Southern Europe businesses transition to Morrish. "The changes are part of long-term suc- cession planning," says HeidelbergCement Supervisory Board Chairman Fritz-Jürgen Heckmann. "Since assuming office in 2005, Dr. Scheifele has decisively shaped the Group and successfully moved it into new dimensions both operationally and strategically. By intro- ducing effective management processes and a lean organization, he significantly increased the competitiveness of HeidelbergCement, propelling us to the forefront of the industry. He has also overseen expansion of our geo- graphic footprint and the scope of our core activities and made HeidelbergCement the leading vertically integrated building mate- rials company globally." "We have named a competent and experi- enced successor as Chairman of the Managing Board from within our own ranks," adds Dr. Scheifele. "Dr. Dominik von Achten has played a decisive role in the successful integrations of Hanson and Italcementi, and has proven his competencies in managing the Group areas North America and Western and Southern Europe."
