64 • February 2019 www.concreteproducts.com INNOVATIONS REPORT PRESTRESSED Engineered with an eye to accuracy, speed and cost savings in precast concrete hollow core production, the new automatic Elematic E9 plot- ter features a practical touch screen for fast, accurate marking of slab openings, reservations and other cuts. The equipment marks cutting lines, rectangles and circles; identification texts and codes on the slab surface; and, places for dividers or fittings on an empty bed surface. Elematic engineers cite the potential to reach a new level of plot- ting accuracy through a direct transfer of a slab design detail file from software such as Tekla Structures BIM to the Plotter's FloorMES machine control system. The transfer takes place via a wireless remote link connection; continuous laser positioning +/- 1 mm along the casting bed improves accuracy. Plotter E9 is operated via a simple 15.6-in. touchscreen that allows zooming, dragging and dropping items similar to any other smart device. On-bed quick re-planning allows the operator to check and edit the data on machine, remove faulty slab sections, define a new starting point and remove geometry. Free of exterior cables owing to battery power, the Plotter features light sensors on both buffers as well as ultrasonic sensors. It stops automatically at any hinders, and is equipped with light and sound alarms. Elematic officials underscore the return on investment potential with technology that can save more than 300 man-hours annually, based on a 10,000-slab production schedule and manual marking methods' consumption of up to two minutes per plank. "The Plotter pays itself back in less than 20 months. Even if automation pre- vents just one mistake in every 500 slabs, you'll save some [$30,000] annually," affirms Product Director, Floor Technologies Jani Eilola. — Elematic Inc., Brookfield, Wis., 262/798-9777; Elematic Oyj, Fin- land, www.elematic.com Elematic focuses like a laser on hollow core opening and cut efficiency
