94 • JULy 2018 www.concreteproducts.com INNOVATIONS REPORT MIXER TRUCKS Indiana-based New Image Mixer has dedicated a 70,000-sq.-ft. facility for front discharge mixer truck refurbishment. It offers two packages for extending vehicle service life, each maintaining an original VIN to allow truck owners economy and flexibility in powertrain overhaul or upgrades. Under a basic package, New Image tears down old mixers to rolling chassis; installs new wiring harnesses plus air, hydraulic and water lines; sandblasts and paints cab, barrel, hood and fenders; rebuilds engines and major components or replaces with remanufactured Cummins or Caterpillar power; and, performs complete cab interior overhaul. A second pack- age includes those services around new, customer-supplied Terex Advance or Oshkosh box frames, plus a host of hood, lighting, fender, barrel, chute and chassis options. New Image's new preparation and assembly line replaces a smaller operation in an adjacent facility, which was damaged by a fire in 2017. The latter was not sufficiently equipped for present workflow, where team members have up to 10 orders in the works and can deliver one finished truck weekly. Through family businesses serving central and southern Indi- ana—four-plant Lees Ready Mix and Trucking and two-plant County Materials—New Image Mixer owner Larry Lee has a long track record of extending the service life of front discharge trucks. Planning for the new facility timed with increasing demand for refurbished mixers, and justified a major invest- ment in equipment assembly and finishing upgrades. They include a new sandblast booth with a media reclaim system, and a new Eagle paint booth with a 5 million Btu curing system. Two- and 10-ton bridge cranes serve the main 170-ft. assembly bay, the roof of which was raised to 26 ft. — New Image Mixers LLC, Shelbyville, Ind., 317/604-5204 New Image lengthens front discharge mixer service life With nearly two acres under roof, New Image Mixers has the square footage and lifting capacity to turn one truck weekly and phase refurbishment for up to 10 vehicles at a time. The company underscored a commitment to front discharge mixer fleets with investments in paint (left, center) and sandblast (right) booths.
