40 • July 2017 BRIEFS ACTIVITIES & APPOINTMENTS MANUFACTURERS Lanxess' signature Bayferrox yellow, red and black pigments have been recertified for pre-consumer recycled iron oxide content from California-based SCS Global Services, a global leader in independent, third-party environmental certification, auditing, test- ing and standards development. Lanxess first achieved certification in 2014, and remains the only iron oxide pigments producer to hold such accreditation. SCS verified up to 92 percent recycled content in yellow, red and black Bayferrox iron oxide pigments. Specifying them with SCS certification for coloring concrete or other materials used in buildings allows project teams to factor the pigments when calculating a project's overall recycled content volume. "Our customers who have a LEED-driven purchasing strategy will benefit from this certification, while supporting a more sustainable environment," says Hans-Peter Baldus, head of Lanxess Inorganic Pigments, Americas region. "In locations like North Amer- ica, Brazil and Europe, this is an important driver in the construction market." To ensure a reliable and sustainable supply of iron oxide red pigments, he adds, Lanx- ess invested in the construction of a new production site in Ningbo, China, whose pat- ented process is designed to exceed the latest environmental standards in yellow-cast red pigment production. All Lanxess Inorganic Pigments production network sites are based on processes subject to uniform health, safety, environmental and quality directives, and carry ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certification. COLAS VETERAN LEADS CATERPILLAR CONSTRUCTION & INFRASTRUCTURE Caterpillar Inc. has appointed two new vice presidents—Chris Snodgrass, Product Support & Logistics Division, and Damien Giraud, Global Construction & Infrastructure Division—in conjunction with major organi- zational changes. A native of France, Giraud will transition August 1 from his present role as Large Excavators product manager, and suc- ceed 37-year Caterpillar veteran Paolo Fellin. Giraud joined Caterpillar in 1998 after seven years with Colas Group, the French parent of New Jersey-based asphalt, aggregates and ready mixed producer Colas USA. Effective this month, Snodgrass will transi- tion from Caterpillar Industrial Power Systems Division general manager to lead a new divi- sion a) comprising groups or functions under other company units; and, b) tasked with design and manufacturing of wear and main- tenance component products, prime product and parts distribution support, inbound and outbound logistics, warehousing functions, plus packaging and container management. Concurrent with the Product Support & Logistics formation, Caterpillar has effected organizational changes yielding a second new division, Digital Enabled Solutions, spanning data analytics group, enterprise data hub, equipment management tools, Cat Connect technologies, and customer experience por- tals. "We recognize the need to bring these groups into an organization that will bring enhanced focus and strategic alignment to the existing and yet-to-be developed digital enablers for our products and customers," affirms Caterpillar CEO Jim Umpleby. Caterpillar also announced the August 1 retirements of Industry Solutions, Components & Distribution Division Vice President Greg Folley and Marketing & Digital Division Vice President George Taylor, plus the transition of the marketing and brand organization to the Global Aftermarket Solutions Division.
