Western Star Trucks commenced a 50th anniver-
sary celebration at its annual dealer meeting,
outlining a year of special events, truck show
appearances and an enhanced website presen-
tation. The first Western Star trucks were made
in 1967 in Kelowna, British Columbia, to serve
the mining, lumber and oil industries. Knowing
the duty cycles and site conditions customers
encountered, the manufacturer built the early
models by hand to ensure they met high stan-
dards and drivers could operate in comfortable
and safe conditions.
Now owned by Daimler Trucks North Amer-
ica, with Portland, Ore., and Cleveland, N.C.,
production facilities, Western Star cites a stan-
dard for vocational and work trucks. It also
entered the on-highway market in 2015 with
the 5700XE, its first aerodynamic truck.
"While we honor our roots in celebrating
this milestone, it is important we continue to
push the boundaries of innovation and tough-
ness," says President Kelley Platt. — www.
