www.concreteproducts.com March 2016 • 27 NEWS SCOPE DRY MIX Quikrete formulates mix for SCC flow Atlanta-based Quikrete Companies continues to build out a profes- sional-grade, bagged product line, unveiling at World of Concrete 2016 a dry mix for structural bridge, parking deck, tunnel, dam, wall and floor repairs. Shipped in 80-lb. bags, Form and Pour is a high- flow, high-strength concrete ideally placed by pump. Its mix design includes micro silica, plastic shrinkage-reducing and air-entraining agents, portland cement, plus 3/8-in. or smaller aggregate. Form and Pour suits vertical and horizontal conditions of 1.5- to 24-in. working area or mass, as it can be mixed from a stiff plastic to free flowing, virtually self-consolidating consistency. When mixed to slumps of 4 inches and 7-9 inches, the material achieves 28-day compressive strengths of 8,000+ psi and 6,500 psi, respectively. Qui- krete is packaging Form and Pour in multiple plants and targeting construction supply house and other distribution channels, mostly outside big box retailers. SPEEDY SET TIME Lightweight concrete additive developer Syntheon Inc., Pitts- burgh, has formulated a dry mix for 30-minute set time and high early strength development characteristics affording form removal at 90 minutes. Announced at World of Concrete 2016, Velocrete sheds weight from architectural projects and is available in a variety of lightweight densities: 150, 120, 110, 100, 90, and 50 pcf. The mate- rial can be specially formulated for custom jobs at a two-pallet min- imum order. "Velocrete fills a void in our industry," says Syntheon Director of Business Development Kevin Foody. "For our customers, it is the best of both worlds—speed and light weight—all with the option to customize the mix to meet their specific needs. There is no other product on the market like this, and we look forward to introducing it to our customers." The mix suits lightweight architectural concrete and slabs, veneer stone, and manufactured products, including land- scaping elements.
